Trevor Finlay

Trevor Finlay

Canadian roots rock/ southern rock sensation Trevor Finlay joins Cole Clark Guitars. Though serendipity played a role in Trevor Finlay’s choice to be a guitar player at age nine, it is clear he found his calling. This Winnipeg (Canada) born artist was exposed to the career for which he was destined through his parents’ love of music and his introduction to an “open jam” session at age 15. Finlay has played regularly, moving from one playing situation to another, refining his guitar skills and honing his tone and performance. Having studied some of the masters like Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and the Rolling Stones, he respects the traditions but refuses to be restricted to playing a traditional style. Finlay feels he can’t be easily pegged as a bluesman, a country artist or a rocker. “There’s way too much music out there to have tunnel vision,” Finlay says. A prodigious talent – singer, songwriter, guitarist, band leader – Finlay has proven himself to be one of Canada’s most renowned roots rock/southern rock artist and is quickly gaining the same reputation in the United States since his move to Nashville, TN in 2008. He opts for well-crafted and musically intelligent arrangements that expand upon standard foundations in new and creative ways, combining the styles of roots rock, country, rock, blues and southern rock to create his own blend of high-energy music. Indeed, he may well have established an entirely new music category; one based on lyrical and guitar ingenuity and observational acuity, as he explores both the quirks of everyday life and the mysteries of the heart with wry, clever wordplay. Over a ten-year span he has accomplished what it takes many recording artists several decades or more to complete, if they ever reach the heights this still-young musician has thus far realized.

While Finlay continues to tour and record, he is also busy as a songwriter in Nashville, USA working with some of the top recording artists and songwriters in North America.
